Northern Zone Secondary Schools
The Northern Zone Qualifying Tournaments are school-based tournaments designed to encourage participation of all schools that are within the Northern and Mid-Northern regions.
The Tournaments are also used as a qualifying process for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Underwater Hockey Championships (Schools Nationals). The Tournaments are required to fulfil the School Sports New Zealand Guidelines.
All four school grades contest in this tournament (Senior Open, Senior Girls, Junior Open and Junior Girls) and the top four teams in each grade qualify to attend the Schools Nationals.

Championship Competition
Senior Girls: Open to all female students under 19 years of age at 1 January.
Senior Open: Open to all students under 19 years of age at 1 January.
Cup Competition
Junior Girls: Open to all female students under 15 years of age at 1 January.
Junior Open: Open to all students under 15 years of Age at 1 January.
